Concept
A main sourse of inspiration for Hourglass was writing poetry. From these poems arose interesting design choices such as the red color of the sand and its dangerous nature, but also the idea that the film would be endless which led to finding a way for the film to loop.
Poetry
Falling taken into hand
The Sand all engulfing, there is no place for tears and sorrow.
Descent has come, taken hand of my body.
Bleeding Sand, mindless mind,
the notions to flee have been lifted by time.
My soul has become the play of Sand, strapped to their passage of above and below.
Resilience and resistance, my foregone feelings, have been shaped to one of somewhat acceptance.
Predestined to fall, and be taken by control, has left the question: “why do I have a soul?”
Red diaphanous shards of Sand
Red diaphanous shards of Sand, found on my tongue and in the gaps of my hands,
a current has come, wrenching me forward.
The shards of Sand have taken their course.
Downwards and downwards, into the spiral I go.
I have no choice, no way to control.
My life has been committed to the way of the Sand, without my consent, I’ve been led to fall and land so harsh again.
Fate has been decided and as has my role, it doesn’t matter my opinion or the way this story will unfold.
I know I have no leverage, nothing to add.
But please make it stop, I can’t stand the end.
